Description

This is a comprehensive first aid course, suitable for those interested in more advanced first aid and University of Canterbury Engineering students.

It will be completed as a blended course with a 4-hour online learning module and a 8-hour classroom session. 

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Assess and manage persons’ major injuries, medical conditions and the emergency situation according to accepted practices for first aid.
  • Provide first aid for bleeding, burns, shock, factures, sprains, crush and head injuries, hyper- and hypothermia, poisoning and amongst others medical emergencies such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and recreational drug and alcohol emergencies.

  • Provide basic life support for adult, child and infant including resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator.

Prerequisites

The pre-course learning and questionnaire must be completed before attending the practical session. This is sent out as soon as you have booked in.
